Sheena is a supplier of Opal sock wool and other knitting & weaving yarns.
Sheena started spinning about 30 years ago, with tuition from the spinning group members of the Rongotea Arts & Crafts. This began her journey into other areas of woolcraft. Shortly afterwards, she joined the Manawatu Spinners & Weavers Guild in Palmerston North (and is still a member) Since moving back to the Wellington area she joined the Onslow Fibrecrafts Guild in 1995. At the Creative Fibre Festival in Christchurch, she renewed her interest in felting, having shared a motel unit with some Kapiti Coast Felters. Spin ‘n’ Wool was born when Sheena was granted an Ashford Dealership after attending a workshop in Ashburton with her friend Maria. She has been a member of the Kapiti Arts & Crafts for many years and also belongs to the Waikanae Arts & Crafts Spinners/Knitters too.
Maria often ably assists Sheena with her business, especially helping at Spin Ins and Teach Ins in the Wellington and Manawatu Areas of Creative Fibre. Maria subsequently started random dyeing the Ashford wool sliver, producing some wonderful colour combinations in her “knots”, which sadly she has ceased doing..
Her business name changed to Sheena’s Socks ‘n’ Wool in October 2010, after Billee Mutton of Unwind took over most of the spinning and felting products.
Soon she is hoping to be making socks, mainly using the Opal sock yarns from Ashford, once she has mastered her circular sock knitting machine.
Sheena’s website shows off many distinct products from various wholesale suppliers including Ashford Handicrafts – knitting & weaving yarns; Naturally Yarns bamboo circular needles and addiTurbo & addiLace circular needles.
